ROUGHSTOCK MONTANA Black Label

It's been a while since Montana made Whiskey and it's Roughstock Distillery that brought it back after more than a hundred years. Hidden in the hills of the Bridger Mountain Range, a US Army veteran Bryan Schultz makes some mean Spirits. Everything about it is as American as it gets. Barley is grown and harvested in Montana, the fermentation happens inOregon fir tanks, and the aging occurs in American oak barrels.

COLOR: ROUGHSTOCK MONTANA Black Label presents itself with a deep golden colour, similar to that of a sunset in the mountains of Montana, a warm tone that invites admiration. Its coppery hue, which intensifies when the light touches it, reflects a complexity that has been slowly forged in oak barrels. The brightness of this bourbon anticipates a rich and deep sensorial experience, which unfolds gradually.

NOSE: From the first moment the glass is brought to the nose, Black Label offers an aromatic range that is both welcoming and intriguing. In the first layer, toasted oak intertwines with ripe vanilla, evoking memories of sweets and freshly baked pastries. As the whisky breathes, subtle notes of creamy caramel and a hint of spiced wood emerge, as if it were a trip to a wood-aging workshop. A background of white pepper and a delicate touch of candied citrus add complexity, offering a sensation of freshness and at the same time an enveloping warmth that invites further exploration. Overall, it's a nose that invites calm, but also sparks curiosity for what's to come.

TASTE: The first sip is a silky, enveloping experience. The texture is smooth, but you immediately get a well-balanced complexity, with a hint of liquid honey merging with a rich, toasted oak base. There's an initial sweetness reminiscent of butterscotch, but this morphs into something deeper, with notes of toasted nuts like almonds and walnuts, which bring a sense of warmth and rusticity. The bourbon reveals its character with a blend of subtle spices: cinnamon and white pepper, accompanied by a light gingerbread sensation that fills the palate with comforting elegance. As the whiskey slides across the tongue, the vanilla becomes more prominent, giving it a smooth, creamy touch that contrasts with the slight smoky presence that appears at the end.
