From the tall peaks of the Missouri Ozarks to the sweeping grandeur of the Highlands of Scottland, Glenmorangie Astar (Scots Gaelic for "journey") is the story of our quest to 'design' the very best oak casks that will deliver perfection in the final whisky. First released in 2008, the single malt's long-awaited return as a 2017 limited edition brings forth a newfound richness and complexity to its silken depths.

TASTING NOTES

COLOR: A luminous gold, with a warm intensity reminiscent of the light of the sunset on a sunny day. Its bright and clean hue invites exploration, displaying a transparency that denotes its refinement. Upon closer inspection, the liquid seems to slide smoothly down the glass, promising a rich and enveloping experience.
NOSE: From the first approach, the nose is enveloped in a warm softness reminiscent of the perfect blend of vanilla and honey. This sweet start gives way to a refreshing wave of citrus, especially lemon peel and a light note of orange that provide a vibrant and almost playful sensation. Over time, more complex layers open up: a delicate touch of oak, slightly smoky, which merges with subtle notes of spices such as cinnamon and clove, along with a slowly emerging fragrance of toasted nuts. Each inhalation seems to reveal something new, holding the nose captive with its richness and depth.

TASTE: Upon first sip, the whisky presents itself with a creamy texture that caresses the palate. The initial sweetness of vanilla is complemented by the softness of honey, but is quickly countered by a refreshing acidity of citrus fruits, especially lime, which adds a bright and sparkling note. As the whisky develops, fine spices, such as white pepper and a hint of ginger, begin to make their presence felt, adding a subtle but intriguing complexity. The oak wood, clearly influenced by the cask, makes itself known with a dry and slightly smoky touch that is combined with a soft warmth. The finish is long and elegant, leaving a lingering trace of dried fruits and a spicy aftertaste that invites you to take another sip, confirming its balance and sophistication.
