After more than 20 years of analysis and experimentation, Guidalberto, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is now a wine with a clear temperament, a good interpretation of the territory. It adopts a younger style that seeks fragrance and sweetness on the palate, characteristics that Merlot can offer even with a relatively short ageing period.
"It has a satisfying drinkability, with its own personality different from Sassicaia, but similar in taste and elegance. Its complexity and structure determine its great potential for ageing and refinement over a long period of time."
At the end of malolactic fermentation the wine remains in tank for about 3-4 months and temperatures are kept at around 10°C. Decanting is carried out periodically to remove sediment. The wine is then aged in wood, in French oak barrels previously used for Sassicaia and Guidalberto, for an average period of 6 to 8 months. At the end of the ageing in wood, the wine returns to the steel tanks where the temperature is stabilised for about 20 days at around 4-5 ° C for the necessary tartaric stabilisation, before bottling.
COMPOSITION
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: The Guidalberto 2020 presents a deep ruby red colour, with violet flashes that denote its youth and vitality. The layer is dense, almost opaque, suggesting a good concentration of aromas and a solid structure. As the wine unfolds in the glass, bright nuances can be appreciated that reflect its clarity and authenticity.
NOSE: On the nose, the wine opens with an enveloping aromatic expression, showing a first layer of ripe red fruits, such as black plums, cherries and blackberries. As it is aerated, spicy and floral notes emerge that give it complexity: a subtle mix of freshly ground black pepper, dried herbs such as rosemary and a touch of liquorice that adds depth. Slight hints of well-integrated wood are also perceived, with nuances of vanilla and a touch of soft tobacco that give an additional dimension. It is an elegant and balanced bouquet, where the fruity and spicy notes are complemented by the subtlety of barrel aging.
TASTE: At first sip, the Guidalberto 2020 immediately reveals itself to be elegant, with a well-defined structure and a harmonious mid-palate. The tannins, although firm, are silky and perfectly integrated, giving the wine a smoothness that invites further tasting. The vibrant but balanced acidity provides freshness and dynamism, while the body of the wine unfolds with a good presence. Flavours of ripe fruit, such as plum and blackberry, merge with light notes of dark chocolate, sweet spices and a subtle mineral touch that provides a very distinctive sense of terroir. The finish is long and persistent, with a notable freshness that invites continued enjoyment of the wine. The harmony between the fruit and the complexity of the oak leaves a pleasant mark on the palate, ensuring that this wine can be enjoyed both now and with a little more time in the bottle.
