Snowed in at home, our Director of Whisky Creation, Dr. Bill, began dreaming of this whisky. His goal was to capture the snug and magical feeling of sitting in front of the fireplace as snow blankets the world outside. In pursuit of rich, radiant taste and wintery aroma, he finished the 13-year-old single malt in Marsala wine casks from Sicily.
The experience begins with light flurries of fruit and honey, building to torrents of cocoa dust, flakes of red pepper and chunks of brazil nut toffee. It culminates in a feels-like-forever finish that swirls with cinnamon, ginger and clove.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: The whisky is a bright golden hue with subtle flashes of deep amber, evoking the warmth of a winter evening. Its appearance is that of a radiant liquid that glows like a soft flame in the midst of the cold, inviting you to immerse yourself in an immersive sensory experience.
NOSE: The first inhalation is like an explosion of aromas that transport us to a warm refuge in the middle of winter. Ripe fruits, such as caramelized apples and prunes, make their way along with the soft citrus fragrance of candied oranges. As time passes, more spicy notes such as cinnamon and a subtle hint of nutmeg become present, adding a sense of comfort and sophistication. As it is oxygenated, deeper notes of vanilla and a slight hint of toasted nuts emerge, creating an extra layer of complexity that invites you to continue exploring.
TASTE: On the palate, A Tale of Winter has a smooth, velvety entry, as if wrapping the palate in a warm blanket. Flavours of candied fruit and a mix of dried figs and ripe pears unfold, accompanied by a light acidity that refreshes and balances the initial sweetness. As the whisky evolves, subtle layers of bitter cocoa and a creamy touch of honey soften the intensity of the fruit. The sherry-influenced woodiness comes through with an elegant presence of toasted oak, while a soft, almost imperceptible smoky note adds an intriguing twist. The finish is long, enveloping and spicy, leaving a lingering aftertaste reminiscent of a mix of vanilla, golden honey and a whisper of dried fruit.
