SOLAIA 2019

The utmost care and attention is given both in the vineyards during harvesting operations and in the winery. The grapes are destemmed, meticulously sorted on sorting tables, gently crushed and transferred by gravity to the vats. It is imperative that only the finest berries reach the 60 Hl truncated cone fermentation vats. During fermentation and maceration on the skins, it is essential to maintain the right balance between the fruity compounds and the quality of the tannins to best express the sweetness, fragrance, identity and character of Solaia. Immediately after racking, malolactic fermentation begins in barrels, which increases the complexity and pleasantness of the wine. Ageing takes place in new French oak barrels for approximately 18 months. The different batches are aged separately and then blended and put back into barrels to complete the ageing process.

Solaia is a 50-acre (20 hectares) south-west facing vineyard located at an altitude between 350 and 400 metres above sea level and with a stony soil of "alberese" (hard limestone) and "galestro" (flaky calcareous clay) rock. The vineyard is located on the Tignanello estate. The Antinori family made this wine for the first time in 1978, and the initial blend was 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, a formula that was repeated also in 1979. In the following years, 20% Sangiovese was introduced and some adjustments were also made to the ratio between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc until reaching the current blend. Solaia is only made in exceptional vintages, and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984 and 1992.

TASTING NOTES

COLOR: The Solaia 2019 presents itself with a deep and vibrant colour, an intense ruby ​​red that slides into shades of dark garnet at the edge of the glass. The hue reveals great concentration, announcing the power and complexity of the wine, while the violet reflections suggest youth and aging potential. Its colour is a visual invitation to explore its rich and sophisticated structure.

NOSE: On the nose, the Solaia 2019 unfolds in spectacular fashion, releasing a mix of ripe black fruits such as blackberry, plum and blackcurrant, which provide a great load of fruit expression. As the wine breathes, additional layers of complexity open up: delicate spicy notes of black pepper and clove are perceived, which are intertwined with a touch of vanilla and cedar, a consequence of its ageing in oak barrels. The aromatic richness does not end here, as evocations of tobacco and cocoa also appear, providing an earthy and deep dimension, along with a subtle herbal fragrance reminiscent of Mediterranean scrubland. This full and complex aromatic palette invites you to discover and rediscover new notes with every breath.

TASTE: On the palate, the Solaia 2019 presents itself with a powerful and elegant entry, enveloping the palate with its silky and well-structured texture. The fine and firm tannins offer a sensation of great elegance, balanced by a vibrant acidity that gives it freshness and exceptional aging potential. The flavours of ripe black fruits unfold with great intensity, followed by a range of spices and a slight smoky touch reminiscent of perfectly integrated wood. As the wine settles, notes of tobacco, mocha and a light touch of minerals emerge, providing depth and complexity. The finish is long, persistent and captivating, with a velvety texture that leaves a lasting mark on the palate. It is a wine that is not only enjoyed in the moment, but continues to evolve in the mouth, offering a rich and multifaceted experience.
