Ardbeg Smoketrails Manzanilla is a limited edition from the prestigious Ardbeg distillery, famous for its intensely smoky and peaty whiskies. This variant, which has been matured in casks previously used for Manzanilla wine, offers a unique experience that fuses the tradition of Islay with the influence of Spain's rich wine culture. With this expression, Ardbeg continues to explore uncharted territory, creating a whisky that invites aficionados to discover new layers of complexity and character. A perfect ambassador of the distillery for those seeking innovation and depth in every sip.
TASTING NOTES:
COLOR: It has a pale golden color with golden glints. It is bright and has a light hue, a reflection of aging in manzanilla casks, which tend to impart a softer color compared to other darker sherry casks.
NOSE: On the nose, the first thing you notice is the smoky and intense character that characterizes Ardbeg. The peat aroma is forceful, but quickly mingles with a saline note that evokes the sea breeze and coastal environment of Islay. There is also an evident freshness, with fruit notes of green apple and citrus adding subtle acidity. Along with these fresh notes, there are hints of dried fruits, such as almonds, and a slight toasted bread nuance reminiscent of oak from the barrel. In the background, a slight sweetness and a soft touch of butter or cream are perceived, adding complexity and rounding out the olfactory experience.
TASTE: On the palate, the whisky starts with a hit of intense smoke and dry peat, as you would expect from an Ardbeg, but the chamomile cask softens the experience, adding a layer of complexity and freshness. Salinity is prominent, evoking the sea and shores of Islay, and notes of toasted nuts, such as walnut and almond, are prominent in the flavor development. As it opens up, subtle fruity notes, such as lemon zest and green apple, balance the peaty intensity. There is also a creamy, light sensation on the palate, providing a nice, smooth texture.
