It has been created from Glenmorangie matured in ex-bourbon casks and then extra-matured in former wine casks, re-toasted for the purpose. This distinctive cask preparation replicates something of the moreish sweetshop flavours in a single malt whisky.
It is the seventh annual release in our multi-award-winning and always intriguing Private Edition range. And Glenmorangie Milsean, with its remarkable sweetshop allusions, may be the most intriguing of them all.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: When you pour Glenmorangie Milsean into the glass, the first impression is of a whisky with a deep and bright gold, almost amber in tone, which reflects the light with reddish flashes, revealing its contact with barrels that have previously contained red wine. Its warm and vibrant colour is like a promise of the sensorial richness that lies within. On the edge of the glass, some slow tears slide down, indicative of its generous body and structure, suggesting a soft and complex texture.
NOSE: From the first moment you bring the glass to your nose, Glenmorangie Milsean offers itself with a complexity that invites you to explore. At first breath, the sweetness becomes evident, with a charming mix of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and raspberries, which intertwine with the subtle perfume of acacia honey and caramelised brown sugar. As the air interacts with the whisky, deeper, spicier notes emerge, such as cinnamon and a hint of fresh ginger, adding a warming sensation. A vanilla undertone, reminiscent of American oak barrels, and a light floral presence, like wildflowers in spring, complete the olfactory profile, offering a sophisticated and complex invitation.
TASTE: The first sip reveals a velvety smooth texture, coating the palate with an enveloping yet balanced sweetness. Initial flavours are marked by cooked fruits, such as apricots and plums, which unfold elegantly alongside molasses and a delicate touch of white chocolate. There is a soft caramel note, almost like freshly made toffee, which provides a sweet and creamy background to the whisky. As it progresses, spices such as nutmeg and a slight presence of clove peek through, providing an additional layer of complexity without overwhelming the experience. The oak, well integrated and barely present, gives structure to the whisky, adding a subtle hint of dried fruit and a light touch of chalk that offers a perfect balance to the predominant sweetness. The finish is long and enveloping, leaving a sensation of lingering smoothness with echoes of ripe fruit, a spicy aftertaste and a slight warmth of the wood that invites you to continue exploring each layer of flavours.
