To celebrate its 200th anniversary, the Ardbeg distillery launched its 2015 limited edition, Ardbeg Perpetuum, on 30 May 2015, on Ardbeg Day.

The result of a blend of several Ardbeg whiskies matured in bourbon and Sherry casks for at least 10 years, this Single Malt Perpetuum aims to present the perfect combination of flavours from the past, present and future of Ardbeg whisky, drawing on the different styles developed by the distillery over the last 200 years, to evoke the next 200.

At 47.4 proof, Perpetuum has all the classic Ardbeg notes combined with creamier ones, for a fresh, rich and smooth bouquet, surprising for this very peaty whisky. With this new expression, the distillery team have sought to express the incredible balance, complexity and perfect peat of Ardbeg in their ongoing quest for new experiences.

TASTING NOTES

COLOUR: Deep Amber.

NOSE: Tar, soot and pine resin leads to dark chocolate, treacle toffee, and a distant, nutty/oaky note. Water initiates fresh, briny sea-spray, linseed oil, and a pine resin/lime top note. Remarkably fresh for such a peaty whisky.

TASTE: Intense, robust peat smoke, savoury smoky bacon, cinnamon and nutmeg, but also an incredible creamy, sweet vanilla/milk chocolate note.

FINISH: The never-ending aftertaste sees more linseed oil (a hint of the Sherry Casks), creosote and tar, but understated, always gentle.
