Chartreuse Green derives its unique character from its natural color, its power and its aromatic complexity from 130 plants, flowers, bark, roots and spices.
Its development requires several weeks of work and is done in various stages:
- Grinds made by the monks in the plant room at the Grande Chartreuse monastery.
- Distillation to obtain the aroma.
- Different types of maceration that extract the active ingredients from the plants and give the liquor its natural color.
It then ages for a long time in oak casks before being bottled, and continues to evolve and develop its complexity in the bottle.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: The Chartreuse Verde features a bright, almost hypnotic emerald green colour that unfolds with vivid intensity, as if fresh leaves from an herb garden had been distilled in a bottle. It is a deep and vibrant hue that evokes a sense of freshness and mystery, with a clarity that allows its purity and complexity to be appreciated from the first glance. The light plays with the liquid, creating golden flashes that reflect its rich nature.
NOSE: The first encounter with its aroma is an explosion of herbal freshness. A range of complex fragrances unfolds before the nose, with notes of mint and basil clearly standing out, evoking a feeling of freshness in the air. As it intensifies, subtle floral hints emerge, like an herb garden in full spring. Accompanying this freshness, a delicate undertone of sweet spices appears, such as anise and a slight hint of clove, which provide an intriguing warmth and a gentle contrast to the initial freshness. It is an aromatic profile that invites exploration, promising a unique experience.
TASTE: On the palate, the Green Chartreuse presents itself with a smooth but firm entry, where the herbal notes unfold with intensity, leaving a vibrant sensation of freshness. Fresh herbs are clearly felt, with a hint of mint and a subtle bitterness, which quickly transforms into a spicy, peppery and somewhat earthy profile. The structure is complex, and although an herbal sweetness is initially perceived, the flavor is enriched with layers of dried herbs and a slight aniseed touch. The warmth of the alcohol feels like a warm hug, without being overwhelming, which gives it a long and enveloping finish. The aftertaste is persistent, with a refreshing mint that lingers in the mouth, leaving a clean and smooth sensation.
