The Pian Delle Vigne estate is located 6 kilometers (3.5 miles) southwest of Montalcino. Its name comes from the eponymous area where a characteristic nineteenth century railway station is located. The property consists of 460 total acres (184 hectares), 160 of which (65 hectares) are planted to vines with generally a south-western exposure at an altitude of 430 feet (130 meters) above sea level. The estate, since the very beginning, has followed a philosophy based on aging in large casks capable of preserving the exceptional integrity and fruit of the Sangiovese grapes and endow this Brunello with a characteristic vibrant elegance.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: The PIAN DELLE VIGNE Brunello di Montalcino 2018 presents a deep and vibrant ruby red color, which at its core displays a garnet intensity that gives the sensation of richness and concentration. As it moves in the glass, its brightness and density suggest the complexity of this wine, anticipating a robust and well-developed structure. The clarity is impressive, reflecting the elegance expected of a high-end Brunello.
NOSE: On the nose, this Brunello reveals an aromatic complexity that awakens the senses. In the foreground, ripe red fruits such as cherries, raspberries and plums bring immediate freshness, while a slight hint of sweet spices, such as black pepper and cinnamon, gently unfolds in the background. After a little aeration, secondary notes emerge that enrich the olfactory experience: a subtle aroma of new leather, dried herbs and an earthy touch that gives depth. The aging in oak barrels brings a hint of vanilla and tobacco, adding layers of complexity that invite you to discover more with each inhalation.
TASTE: On the palate, the PIAN DELLE VIGNE 2018 is a full-bodied and structured wine, with firm but soft tannins that feel perfectly integrated, offering a velvety sensation. The acidity is lively and refreshing, elegantly balancing the power of the tannins and providing a sensation of freshness that lingers on the palate. The red fruit flavours continue on the palate, accompanied by a soft earthy sensation and a hint of liquorice that evolves into spicy notes of pepper and tobacco. The finish is long and enveloping, with a persistence that leaves a trace of ripe fruit and a delicately spiced aftertaste. This wine has a structure that makes it ideal for ageing, although it is already wonderfully enjoyed in its youth.
