The Macallan Edition No. 5 celebrates The Macallan’s extensive natural colour spectrum and the intricate whisky making process, in partnership with masters at the Pantone Color Institute™ to create a unique shade of purple that features on the packaging. 

The Macallan Edition No. 5 is our very own homage to the diversity and complexity of natural colour. Inspired by a coming together of whisky making mastery and colour expertise and insight, this single malt celebrates both The Macallan’s commitment to natural colour and the intricate whisky making process. 

100% natural in colour, all of our exceptional whiskies from The Macallan are shaped from time spent in the very best casks; maturing, nurturing and developing character. World renowned colour masters at the Pantone Color Institute™ created a uniquely bold shade of purple; reflecting an enigmatic, multi-faceted and intricate combination of red and blue.

We can find much common ground between whisky making and colour creation and with Edition No.5 we have been able to explore and celebrate these two art forms.

As the rainbow’s most complex colour, purple naturally felt like the ideal shade to highlight the equally complex process involved in The Macallan’s whisky making.

TASTING NOTES

COLOR: In the glass, the Macallan Edition Nº5 displays a splendid warm golden colour, with nuances reminiscent of the golden light of a soft sunset. Its bright and radiant intensity is a perfect prelude to what is to come. The clarity of its tone reflects the purity and care of the maturation process in American oak barrels, promising a rich and complex sensory experience. The liquid flows with an elegant viscosity, leaving delicate tears that slowly slide down the glass.

NOSE: As the glass is approached, a range of aromas unfolds that immediately captivate. The fragrance is warm and inviting, with an initial burst of ripe tropical fruits, such as pineapple, mango and a subtle hint of peach. As it is oxygenated, the complexity intensifies, revealing additional layers: a soft honey sweetness that blends with the softness of vanilla, creating a feeling of comfort and warmth. After this first wave, notes of American oak emerge, providing light depth and a hint of spices such as cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg, with a hint of fresh ginger adding a vibrant touch. These aromas intertwine with the fragrance of fresh wood and a slight suggestion of orange peel, creating an intriguing and perfectly balanced nose, full of layers to discover.
TASTE: On the palate, the Macallan Edition Nº5 reveals an extremely silky texture, which glides easily on the tongue. It opens with a sweet explosion of tropical fruits, mainly pineapple and a hint of juicy mango, which mix with the softness of honey and vanilla. This sweetness is perfectly balanced by the presence of fine, lightly toasted wood, which provides a complex but smooth structure. The flavours expand with notes of walnut and a touch of caramel cream, followed by a light spicy vibration that evokes cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of clove, without being overwhelming. As the whisky settles, notes of candied orange peel and a light hint of almond emerge, adding freshness and depth. The finish is long and enveloping, with a soft, warm persistence that blends with light hints of oak and sweet spices, leaving a pleasant and sophisticated imprint that invites further exploration.
