As Dr Bill, our freethinking Director of Whisky Creation, enjoyed a cup of his favourite Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, the notion of Signet first came to him. At once his mind filled with spiralling mocha flavours that he could not forget. It would take him years to bring our unprecedented whisky to life. But in its tiramisu tones and melting chocolate, you can taste his most delicious imaginings.
Signet begins with our precious chocolate malt spirit, made just once a year in our giraffe-high stills. Its espresso-like intensity fills our Distillery with aromas more familiar in an Italian coffee bar. Over the years, we temper its power with rare and treasured casks. Bourbon for creaminess. Sherry for sweetness. The spice of virgin charred oak. All balanced by some of the oldest whisky we own. The result? A velvet explosion of flavour. Bursts of bitter mocha, sizzling spice and waves of dark chocolate, mellowed by smooth butterscotch. Whisky, as you have never tasted it before.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: The Glenmorangie Signet has a deep, dark amber colour, which sparkles with warm glints, almost like a precious gem trapped in the glass. Its chromatic intensity is a reflection of its inner complexity, promising a rich and sophisticated sensory experience from the first glance. The light plays with its tone, revealing nuances ranging from copper to gold, inviting you to discover what awaits within.
NOSE: As you approach the glass, the first breath reveals a fascinating nose that does not leave you indifferent. A complex mix of aromas unfolds, in which bitter cocoa predominates, but with a softness reminiscent of high-quality dark chocolate, accompanied by an enveloping fragrance of freshly ground coffee, deep and comforting. Then, slowly, notes of dried fruits such as raisins, figs and ripe plums emerge, adding a subtle sweetness and a touch of molasses. As the whisky deepens, delicate spicy nuances such as cinnamon and clove emerge, balanced by an elegant toasted oak background and a light smoke presence. It is an aromatic array that invites you to discover new layers with each inhalation.
TASTE: On the palate, Glenmorangie Signet offers an enveloping, dense yet smooth entry, coating the palate with a silky, luxurious texture. Initial notes of cocoa and coffee intertwine with a complex sweetness reminiscent of candied fruits such as plums and figs, with a hint of maple syrup providing a velvety sensation. As the whisky develops, layers of toasted walnut, acacia honey and a subtle hint of spices such as black pepper and nutmeg emerge, providing depth and a slight spiciness. The influence of toasted oak is present, offering a smoky aftertaste that envelops the long, elegant finish. The finish is clean, but persistent, leaving a pleasant feeling of warmth that invites you to continue enjoying each sip.
