The 6th release from Glenmorangie's award-winning Private Edition, Tùsail is the product of a carefully-selected parcel of Maris Otter barley, floor-malted by hand using traditional techniques, and non chill-filtered.
A rich winter variety of barley first introduced in 1965, Maris Otter was bred specifically to meet the demand for a high quality brewing malt and recognized for its ability to impart rich, rustic malty flavours. Now used only by a select few who continue, like Glenmorangie, to uphold an ethos of sacrificing yield for quality by using only the finest ingredients, the result is a whisky celebrating the variety’s renowned taste profile.
TASTING NOTES
COLOR: In the glass, this whisky presents itself as a deep, bright amber gold, reminiscent of old gold in the soft light of an autumn evening. Its appearance has a certain warmth and visual richness that invites contemplation, revealing a silky appearance, almost liquid in its smoothness, as if each drop were imbued with the very essence of maturity.
NOSE: As you approach the glass, the nose is the first indication of the complexity that this whisky holds. It opens with a wave of dried fruits, such as ripe plums, dried apricots and a hint of figs, which blend with a note of heather honey, providing a soft and natural sensation. Over time, the bouquet opens to a series of deeper layers, with a subtle presence of sweet spices, such as cinnamon and nutmeg, which are complemented by a hint of gingerbread. A light aroma of cedar and toasted almonds appears in the background, and it is here that the unique malt barley used in its elaboration makes itself felt, adding a certain earthy sensation, reminiscent of a wet forest. This combination creates an aromatic experience of great depth and breadth, which invites further exploration.
TASTE: On the palate, Glenmorangie Túsail unfolds with a silky and enveloping texture, offering a robust but balanced experience. At first, the flavour is an explosion of ripe fruits; roasted apple, caramelized pears and a touch of banana in syrup stand out. As it develops, notes of dried fruits are added, especially toasted walnuts and a light touch of bitter almond, which give it a slightly more complex and juicy texture. The influence of wood is noticeable but not dominant: slight spicy notes of cinnamon, vanilla and a light toasted wood appear behind the fruit, adding elegance to the whole. In the end, the experience ends with a long and satisfying aftertaste, where a soft toffee sweetness and a hint of orange peel stand out, leaving a persistent mark that invites you to continue tasting.
